A Publishing Update: Paper Trail, Red Ink, and Keys of the Ancients
D.W. Stein • October 28, 2026
Back in August, I wrote about my publishing plans for late 2026 and beyond. There was quite a bit of "I hope" and "I'm planning" in that post. Time for an update on what's actually happened.
Red Ink Is Re-drafted and in Paperback
I've finished re-drafting Red Ink, and, as I mentioned in the paperback announcement, there's now a print edition on Amazon too.
That was one of the main things I wanted to get done when I wrote the original update. It's good to be able to tick it off rather than keep talking about it.
If you've been waiting for a physical copy, you can grab the paperback here.
Paper Trail Is Up for Pre-order
The pre-order links for Paper Trail, book two in the Red Ink series, are now live:
It's currently slated for 29 November 2026, but I'm aiming to have it out before then. That's the hope, not a promise. For now, 29 November is the date to go by.
I've also added a Paper Trail book page if you'd like to read the blurb and see what Nora's getting herself into next.
A New Ending for Keys of the Ancients
In the August post, I said I was considering reworking the latter half of Keys of the Ancients. I've moved beyond considering it now: I'm re-drafting the ending, and I'm aiming to have the revised version ready and out in November.
I want to give that ending the attention it needs. The aim is to make the book better, not just get another item off the list.
I also have loose plans to add paperback and Audible editions to the other Ashes of the Waterfall titles. Nothing firm to announce on timing yet, but I haven't forgotten about them.
And Breach Point Is in Audio
One more thing from the original plans: the Breach Point audiobook is live. You can find it on Amazon here. It's 20 hours long and doing well on Audible so far, which is lovely to see.
So that's where things stand. Some things finished, some still being worked on, and a few plans that need a bit more time. Thanks for sticking with me while I get these books into shape and out into the world.
Thoughts on this post?
I'd love to hear them. Send me a note and I'll get back to you by email.
